Who operates this site
OG Scope is a free tool for reading the metadata a public page publishes for social link previews. There is no account and no sign-in. The site is not affiliated with Meta, LinkedIn, X, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp, or Telegram.
What the tool does
You paste a public URL and press Preview. The server requests that page, reads the HTML it receives, and sends your browser the parsed result: titles, descriptions, image addresses, and the estimated cards. The raw HTML of the target page is not sent to your browser.
The URL you submit
The URL is the information you give the tool. It is used to fetch that page and to build the preview. The server refuses localhost, private network addresses, and link-local addresses. It checks each redirect before following it.
A successful result can stay in the server’s memory for about ten minutes so the same URL is not downloaded again immediately. That copy includes the URL and the parsed metadata. It is not a database, it is not a search history, and it is discarded when the process restarts.
Rate limiting
The server uses the IP address of the request to limit how many previews one client can run in a minute. Those timestamps stay in memory for that short window. They are not saved as a profile and they are not sold.
Theme preference
If you switch between light and dark, the choice is stored in your browser under the key theme. That value stays on your device.
Hosting logs
The company that hosts this website may keep ordinary server logs, such as an IP address, the browser type, and the address of the page that was requested. Those logs are part of running and protecting the site. They are handled by the host under its own terms.
Advertising and analytics
This site does not show advertising.
It uses Google Analytics 4 to measure how the site is used. The tag is Google's gtag.js, measurement ID G-WBVYB30DN2. After a page loads, the browser sends Google the page address, a general location derived from the IP address, the browser and device type, and the interactions enabled for this stream. Those include page views, scrolling, and outbound clicks.
Google may store cookies in the browser, including cookies whose names start with _ga, so a later visit can be recognized as the same browser. Those cookies are not an account on this site. Google describes its handling of that data in its privacy policy. Blocking or deleting the cookies in the browser leaves the preview tool working.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page will change with it. The new text applies from that date.
